Xavier Font has been invited to become a member of the Scientific Committee for the Footbridge 2020 conference, which will be held in Madrid on 21, 22 and 23 April, 2021, after being postponed due to the Covid-19.

Xavier Font will be member of the jury panel for The City Link competition, held by the Team Uni, for the design of a 100-meter-long pedestrian bridge across the Port of Copenhagen in Denmark, close to the existing Knipples Bridge. The results will be announced on April 23,2020. Other members of the jury panel are: Evren Başbuğ (Studio Evren Başbuğ, Turkey), Chloe Natanel Brunner (Preliminary Research Office, China), Silvia  Rizzo (LD+SR architetti, Italy) and Miguel Rosales (Rosales+Partners, United States). The article "The Polcevera Viaduct. One year after the collapse", written by Xavier Font, has been published at the magazine L'Informatiu (no. 362 - p.66). He studies the possible causes of the collapse and the lessons that can be learned from this tragic event. The Catalan on line version of the article is available here.

 

The construction stage document of a new footbridge over the River Congost in the Pla de Palou area has been delivered by Alfa Polaris to the Granollers City Council. The construction of this new crossing is expected to start in 2021.

Xavier Font has been invited to become a member of the Expert Group on Public Work’s Cultural Heritage of the Colegio de Caminos, Canales y Puertos.

 

The team made up of ANTA Ingeniería Civil, LERA Consulting Structural Engineers, and ALFA POLARIS has been selected as one of the four finalists for the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park pedestrian bridge competition, held by Buffalo Urban Development Corporation and Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc.

Today the team made up of ANTA Ingeniería Civil, LERA Consulting Structural Engineers, SUESLAN Arquitectos and ALFA POLARIS have submitted his entry for the Metals in Construction 2019 Awards for the design of this pedestrian walkway in New York City. The team made up of ANTA Ingeniería Civil, LERA Consulting Structural Engineers, and ALFA POLARIS has been selected as one of the four finalists for the competition for a pedestrian bridge over the Lake Carnegie at the campus of Princeton University in United States.

 

The article "The restoration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus church in Vistabella", written by Anna Moreno and Xavier Font, has been published at the magazine L'Informatiu (no. 351 - p.94). They show the process of restoration of this outstanding church designed by the architect Josep Maria Jujol, and study the possible causes of its curious layout. Xavier Font will be member of the jury panel for the Dobooku Awards 2016, which honours the best Capstone projects from the Civil Engineering School of Barcelona (UPC). The awards will be given at the evening ceremony that will take place on 24th January 2017 at the Col·legi d'Enginyers de Camins headquarters in Barcelona.

Alfa Polaris has been commissioned by the Granollers City Council to develop the concept design and the construction stage document for a new footbridge over the river Congost. The new structure is part of the new EC Granollers Football Pitch scheme, which will be moved from the city centre to this outskirt area.

 

Xavier Font joins the jury panel for the Catalonia Construction Awards held by the Col.legi d’Aparelladors de Barcelona (CAATEEB). The awards will be given at the night ceremony that will take place on 6th July 2017 in Barcelona. The rest of the members of the jury panel will be: Jordi Gosalves (CAATEEB), Josep Maria Forteza (CAATEEB), Celestí Ventura (Uniq Residential), Natalia Crespo (SGS), Joan Camps (freelance), and Eduard Gascón (TAC Arquitectes).

 

The refurbished bridge over the River Cardener was inaugurated today with the attendance of representatives from the Diputació de Barcelona, promoter of the scheme, and the Callús Borough Council.

 

And article about the Callus Footbridge scheme, whose design was developed by Alfa Polaris, has been included at the March issue of the Chinese magazine World Architecture, dedicated to footbridges from all around the world.

The deck replacement of the bridge over the River Cardener in Callús is completed and from now on the crossing is accessible again. Work on the removal of the road diversion, which was necessary for the substitution of the deck, will start today.

Yesterday the first section of the new deck for the bridge over the River Cardener in Callús was positioned into place. Work on the erection of the new Corten steel structure is expected to last until the end of next week. 

 

The new footbridge over the River Mogent in Montornès del Vallès (Barcelona) was officially opened to the public today. Alfa Polaris was responsible for the concept design, the construction stage document and the assistance to the site supervision.

Today the Corten steel truss deck of the footbridge over the River Mogent in Montornès del Vallès was lifted to its final position. The structure was transported to the site in three sections, which were welded together on the left bank. Two cranes were necessary for its erection. Its opening is expected in two months.

 

Work on the deck replacement of the BV-3003 road bridge over the River Cardener in Callús (Barcelona) starts this week and is expected to last 10 months. Alfa Polaris developed the concept design and the construction stage document, and will be responsible for the site supervision. This bridge, owned by the Diputació de Barcelona, promoter of the scheme, was originally built in 1931. Its reinforced concrete deck was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and reconstructed in 1943.

 

Mario Guisasola, director and owner of the San Sebastian based engineering company Anta Ingeniería Civil, and Xavier Font have decided to create a new firm, Ntropia, to raise their competitiveness in the international market.
